The Wine Road "Colli del
Trasimeno" has been planned to let the visitor feel immediately in
touch with land, its culture and its qualities. Thus the chaos of
the city is soon forgotten to be replaced with other values like:
genuineness, contact with nature and a desire of knowledge. The
configuration of the hill, the limited expansion of plain but mainly
the Trasimeno Lake itself, creates a micro-climate that is perfect
for the growing of vineyards and olive groves. The vineyards
themselves seem to be respectful towards other fruits, colours and
scents which this land has been providing with for ages, as they are
located on the edges of a wood, close to an olive grove and in the
middle of fields with wheat and sunflowers. The people who live
along the Wine Road "Colli del Trasimeno" know that is no better way
to let guests feel at home as it has always been that way ever since
Etruscan eve, through the ages of the Romans, the Benedictine monks,
San Francesco from Assisi, the pilgrims and of the Renaissance
artists like the "Perugino". The following of the Routes of the
Wine Road "Colli del Trasimeno" allows the traveller to get in touch
with an area where life is pleasant, a natural area that involves
all the five senses. The Gastronomy of this area is made of simple
and tasty courses made of the finest ingredients like the Colli del
Trasimeno extra virgin Olive Oil an natural local products like
truffles, wild mushrooms and fish like: eels, pike, "Queen" carp and
royal perch. |

Here it is very easy to find craftsmen still
producing artistic handicrafts like wrought iron, the "Pietra
Serena" sculptures, the lace and "Irish Stitch" (jewellery and
painting). The itinerary also includes important artistic and
historical features because of the local people’s wish to help
visitors in discovering the true spirit of the Wine Road "Colli del
Trasimeno". That route includes five other ones:
-
The first is called "ALONG THE PATHS
WHERE HANNIBAL TROD " (Tuoro and Passignano);
-
The second is called "IN THE FOOTSTEPS
OF THE KNIGHTS OF MALTA" (Magione and Corciano);
-
The third is called "THE LANDS OF
PERUGINO " (Città della Pieve, Paciano, Panicale and
Piegaro);
-
The fourth is called "IN THE NAME OF
ASCANIO DELLA CORGNA " (Castiglione del Lago);
-

For several
years our producers have chosen to implement the "traditional" vines
(Sangiovese, Grechetto, Trebbiano, Canaiolo and Vinsanto) with new
methods of growing aimed to produce the modern wines demanded by a
knowledgeable and sophisticated market. Thus, according to the
Disciplinary of Production of D.O.C. wines today even Cabernet,
Pinot, Merlot and Chardonnay vines are afforded. Many years ago
Salvatore Mondini, in his "Treaty on foreign vines" wrote about
Gamay Perugino as Cabernet-Sauvignon emphasising that this vine
mixed with Sangiovese contributed to give more roundness and
subtlety to the final product. |
